Writer's Block: Life of the Party [Jul. 21st, 2009|08:55 pm]

Do you know any party tricks that can impress a crowd? Or even just a little kid?

I can balance an M&M on my nose. I can also make the candy jump into my mouth. It seems to impress most everybody although it doesn't work if I've had anything stronger to drink than coffee. It's fun to do during a poker party because people will laugh and not realize what their hand is. It's not exactly James Bond with a girl in a slinky dress to distract the other card players, but it works.

Psalm 136 [Apr. 30th, 2009|06:47 pm]
Psalm 136 was sung as Jews walked to Jerusalem for the High Holy days. It was probably sung in response form, as you can see from the repeated chorus. It's one of the Songs of Ascent.

Psalm 136
1 Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, because his goodness is forever
2 Give thanks to the God of gods, because his goodness is forever
3 Give thanks to the master of the masters, because his goodness is forever
4 For the one who alone makes great wonders, because his goodness is forever
5 For the one who made the heavens in understanding, because his goodness is forever
6 For he spread out the land over the waters, because his goodness is forever
7 For the one who made great lights, because his goodness is forever
8 The sun rules in the day, because his goodness is forever
9 The moon and stars rule in the night, because his goodness is forever
10 To the one who smote Egypt of their firstborn, because his goodness is forever
11 And lead Israel out from among them, because his goodness is forever
12 With a strong hand and with a stretched out arm, because his goodness is forever
13 For the one who cuts the Red Sea into parts, because his goodness is forever
14 And he caused Israel to pass through the midst of it, because his goodness is forever
15 And he threw off Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea, because his goodness is forever
16 For the one who led his people in the wilderness, because his goodness is forever
17 For the one who smote great kings, because his goodness is forever
18 And he killed noble kings, because his goodness is forever
19 Sihon, King of the Amorites, because his goodness is forever
20 Og, King of the Bashan, because his goodness is forever
21 And he gave their land as an inheritance, because his goodness is forever
22 An inheritance for Israel, his servant, because his goodness is forever
23 For he remembered us in our low estate, because his goodness is forever
24 And he tore us away from our distress, because his goodness is forever
25 One who gives bread to all beings, because his goodness is forever
26 Give thanks to the God of the heavens, because his goodness is forever

Psalm 121 [Apr. 15th, 2009|09:49 pm]
A translation of Psalm 121. This is one of the "songs of ascent". It was sung during the hikes to Jerusalem for the High Holy Days. I really like this Psalm, and it's shorter than the other tasks I've taken on. :)

Psalm 121

1 A song for the ascent—I will lift up my eyes towards the mountains. From where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the LORD who created the heavens and the earth.
3 May he not permit your foot to stumble; may the one who keeps you not slumber.
4 Behold! He will not slumber and he will not sleep—the one who keeps Israel.
5 The LORD is the one who helps you. The LORD is your shadow over your right hand.
6 The sun will not smite you by day nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all evil; *he will guard your life*.
8 The LORD will guard your going and coming from now and until forever.

*This may be translated as “he will keep your soul”. I couldn't decide between the translations because both are equally valid.

I SOLD TWO PAIRS OF EARRINGS [Oct. 16th, 2008|10:13 pm]
So, yeah.

I sold two pairs of earrings to perpet and my server at a diner tonight. I brought some new earrings I'd made to show perpet , and the server liked two pairs so much she bought them. I made $11 which is pretty good seeing how much the materials cost me. I'm going back to Hobby Lobby tomorrow to pick up more beads like the kind I sold tonight so I can make more earrings to sell. I've decided to take my jewelry making up a notch.

My new beading blog. Come give me a holler.

Project Runway 5 [Jul. 19th, 2008|04:02 pm]
I've missed PR! I LOVE YOU AUSTIN! Isn't it bitchy to reuse a challenge, though? I don't think it's because they couldn't think of a new challenge, but I think this challenge really pushes the designers to think not only outside their box but also outside another dozen or more designers who have already done it.
I think Tim lost weight.
Nina got a promotion!
Leanne--Love her! Silent fashion assassin! Candy!!
Wesley--Nice shorts.
Joe--I'm glad you're going for your dreams.
Terri--I really liked the mop top
Suede--...WTF? I don't know if I love you or if I think you're crazy.  Can I get a definition of "Wackadoodle"?
Stella--Who doesn't love a rocker chick? Don't get discouraged!! I liked the dress.
Keith--stop sucking up to Heidi. You're not cute enough to be lazy.
Blayne--I'm having trouble understanding your vision...
Kenley--Your model needed a bra.
Daniel--zoology? Wicked idea with the plastic cups.
Kelli--I love the method of dying the dress
Jerell--You're not Santino.
Jerry--I don't get the concept of your outfit...I'm sorry.
Korto--Elegant dress! Great look!
Jennifer--I don't like your dress.

If I had to guess based off of this one challenge, the top three will be: Kelli, Suede, and Terri or Daniel.

I now count myself an adult [Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:52 pm]
It took over 21 years for me to feel like an adult. Allow me to explain my thought process.

Yesterday was my first time running the middle school youth group by myself. The word 'fiasco' might have gone through my head a couple of times. It didn't go too awfully well.

Today I visited a 76-year-old lady who recently lost her husband and had open-heart surgery around the same time.

I had more in common with the 76-year-old than with the pre-teen girls.

Thus, I count myself an adult.
